Overview: What is Minoxidil?

Minoxidil is a local treatment in the form of a lotion or foam that can be prescribed to both men and women. It allows a significant (but not total) limitation of hair loss and especially a stimulation of hair growth. The mode of action of Minoxidil on the hair is not really known, but this vasodilator allows an interesting regrowth effect after a few months of application on the scalp (generally within 4-5 months). It can be used for all forms of alopecia (not only for androgenetic alopecia). There are variable concentrations: 2% or 5%. The hair that grows back under the effect of this treatment is dependent on the continuation of the treatment, in fact when the treatment is stopped, this hair will fall out. Minoxidil Prescription

Minoxidil should be applied once or twice a day to the entire scalp, which has been lightly moistened beforehand. Its effectiveness occurs in three stages: 1) During the first month : paradoxical increase in hair loss (elimination of hair in the telogen phase) 2) During the second month : normalization of hair loss 3) Between the third and sixth months : improvement in hair growth and quality. Note: The combination of minoxidil 5% and finasteride increases their effectiveness against hair loss. It is therefore possible to be prescribed the combination of the two treatments based on the diagnosis made by one of our specialist doctors during your first consultation. Side effects and contraindications
